Steiner, John (30 JAN 1881 - 20 OCT 1937)
The deceased was born in Canton, Bern, Switzerland, Jan. 30, 1881. He emigrated to this country in 1899 and was married on March 8, 1906 to Lucy Ruef at Monroe, Wis. They made Monroe their home until 1921, at which time they moved to Clark County and settled on a farm east of Spokeville, where they resided until moving to the Graves farm, one and one-half miles west of Loyal in 1932. This summer Mr. and Mrs. Steiner moved from the Graves farm and Mr. Steiner was last employed at the Jay Vanderhoof and Knoll Farms near Spencer.
Mr. Steiner drove to Spencer last week Wednesday, October 20th and parked in front of the Swarthout Funeral home where he was found dead in his car about 4:00 p.m. of that day. Death was caused by strychnine.
He is survived by his widow, three sons, John of Cambridge, Minn., Walter of Winslow, Ill., and Rudolph of Loyal. Also two sisters in Switzerland, a sister and brother in California and a brother at Winslow, Ill.
Funeral services were held from the Swarthout Funeral home, Spencer, at 2:00 p.m. Oct. 23rd, with interment in the Loyal Cemetery. Rev. Gustave Pfeiffer of Greenwood, officiated.
Pall bearers were Albert Schroeder, Frank Coryell, George Zuehlke, Thomas Giesler, Edwin Kreuser and John Schweiger.
Flower girls were Nellie and Erma Wahlen and Lillie Feichter.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. John Steiner, Cambridge, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Walter Steiner, Winslow, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ruef, Juda, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Steiner, Winslow, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. E. Nicolier, Darlington, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Wahlen, Neillsville, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. John Blatt, Arpin, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. John Feichter, son and daughters, Nasonville, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hohl, Greenwood, Wis.
